Diagnosis and Treatment of Respiratory Disorders

Pulmonology

Matis Hospital provides medical evaluation and treatment for conditions affecting the lungs and respiratory system. Pulmonology focuses on disorders involving the airways, lungs and other structures responsible for breathing, including both acute respiratory problems and long-term lung conditions. Respiratory symptoms can have different underlying causes. Pulmonary evaluation considers the patient's symptoms, medical history, physical examination and appropriate diagnostic investigations to determine the cause and guide treatment.

  • Asthma: A chronic airway condition that can cause wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): A group of chronic lung diseases that can cause persistent breathing difficulties and airflow limitation.
  • Pneumonia and respiratory infections: Infections affecting the lungs or respiratory tract that may require medical treatment and monitoring.

Pulmonary Evaluation and Treatment

Pulmonary assessment may include lung function testing such as spirometry, chest imaging, blood tests or other investigations depending on the patient’s symptoms and clinical condition. Additional tests may be recommended when further evaluation is required.

Treatment may include medicines, inhaled therapies, oxygen support when clinically indicated, pulmonary rehabilitation, lifestyle measures or other appropriate interventions. Some respiratory conditions require regular monitoring and long-term management.

Patients with severe breathing difficulty, rapidly worsening breathlessness, bluish discoloration of the lips or face, confusion or other serious respiratory symptoms should seek urgent medical attention.
